Behind the names in the Garden are the stories of our loved ones. Once headlines of the murders fade away, these victims are sometimes forgotten by all but their families.

As former Board Chair Evelyn Tobin noted at the 2008 Honor Program, "It is important that we tell the stories of the lives they lived. So that we can all remember what has been lost.  The theme for our 4th Annual Honor Program was "Hope and Remembrance." To remember those we love who were taken from us by acts of violence and all homicide victims is the easy part. We will never forget. What is not so easy is to find the hope symbolized by the sculpture in our Garden. When something like this happens, there is not much that we have left except a choice. It is a choice between despair and hope. A choice between anger and grief... and love. It was hope and remembrance... and love... that created this Garden."

By sharing the stories of our loved ones, we ask the world to remember their lives. And we hope that these stories will inspire all of us to work for a world of peace filled with hope.

The engraved names collectively are a visual testament to the need for eliminating violence, a symbol of the hope for peace and renewal in our lives, our community and the world.  Yet each person, on its own, has a powerful story of love, loss, and of the everlasting impact of violence.

Your stories woven together will provide a powerful reminder of the beauty of life, the devastating impact of loss as well as the senselessness of homicide.

The Garden of Peace will use these stories as living tributes to educate all on the true impact of homicide as well as bring to life the names on each homicide victim, defining them beyond the violent act that ended their lives.  With your permission, we will be utilizing your tributes on the Garden of Peace website, as well as in educational/outreach materials.

Please note that only living tributes to homicide victims memorialized in the Garden of Peace will be posted to our website.

These personal stories have been provided by the family and/or friends of the victim. The Garden of Peace is not responsible for the statements as they appear.
