Personal Story: Andrew Colwell

Aug 23, 1989 to Jul 7, 2008

Son of Garden of Peace Board Member Christine Colwell

Andrew had just received his high school diploma from Mansfield High School, an honor roll student who possessed, as many have said, a “Joir De Vive”. Andrew was murdered just a mile from our home on July 7th, 2008, weeks from starting college at the UNH. He was 18 years old. Andrew was not afraid to show his love, and we will all forever miss his closeness, his hugs, his sense of humor, his compassion and most of all that smile.

Andrew enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved snowboarding, tennis, his family and friends, of which he had many, and of course his dog Ali. He was our youngest child, and loved nothing more than to tease his sister who he fondly referred to as “sissie” or spending time with his cousins Caroline and Brendan.

Andrew didn't know his killer. There was no fight, no struggle. His killer pulled out a gun and shot him at point blank range. His murderer was arrested on July 9th, 2008 and was allowed to plead guilty to second-degree murder. He is currently serving a 20 – 25 year sentence.

The Colwell family keeps Andrew’s memory alive through the Andrew Christopher Colwell Scholarship Fund, though the Mansfield High School.
