2019 Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month: Nov. 20 - Dec. 20

By Massachusetts law, every November 20 – December 20 is Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month (SHVAM). Click here to see a copy of the governor's proclamation for 2019. Below are events known to the Garden. Consult your local homicide bereavement services for information about other possible observances in your area. 

Louis D. Brown Peace Institute Presents the SHVAM Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony Gala

Enacted in 2000, the annual SHVAM was created in an effort to educate the public and policymakers about the impact of murder on families and communities and uplift the peace-building efforts of survivors.

The Riverview Chamber Players' Fourth Annual Harmony & Hope - Responding to Violence with Music

This concert and community event is designed to help ease the pain in our hearts, to remember the love of those killed, to give hope for a future without violence, and to provide an opportunity for a renewed sense of gratitude and joy for life. At the center of the performance will be a tea-light ceremony in remembrance of homicide victims.
