Garden of Peace statement in aftermath of murders in Newtown, CT
Monday, December 17, 2012
There are no words to explain what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday. Only hearts breaking and tears shed speak to us, and the sound is deafening.
The Garden of Peace knows this sound all too well, as the pain and sadness of losing those we love visits us often. Our hearts are heavy as we remember those beautiful children and their loving teachers.
Reverend Jeffrey Brown said it best, quoting scripture’s Good Samaritan story: “How can we extend the hand of care and love to people we don’t know?” . . . We must pledge to do what we can . . . to end the dominance of violence in our communities.”
Please watch for details about community actions and efforts through the Garden of Peace over the coming weeks and months.
